John Armor Article in Human Events

Posted by Thunder Pig on July 30, 2008

Local author, raconteur, and former primary candidate in the GOP NC-11 race, has an article on Human Events entitled, “Anybody Remember The Red Lion Case?” and here is a snippet to whet your appetite for more:

…What Justice White does not include in his opinion is the relative availability of media when he was writing his opinion. There were slightly more than 4,000 daily newspapers in the United States, then. Most major cities had competing dailies. Some cities like Chicago and New York, had more than six competing newspapers.

At the same time, in 1969, the number of TV licenses were in the hundreds, and there were fewer radio licenses than newspapers.

Today, all of those figures are reversed. The number of daily newspapers is down to about 2,000 and declining. The number of TV stations are above 10,000, and the number of radio stations about five times as many. Given cable and satellite technologies, the average American household now has access to at least 100 TV channels, plus dozens of specialized radio stations. That average household has access to less than two daily newspapers.

It was this change in the facts which led the FCC to end the Fairness Doctrine almost thirty years ago. The disparity, with print media declining and electronic media growing, has continued apace since then. This huge advantage in favor of individual access to broadcast channels that offer what they want, is increased by orders of magnitude when the Internet, plus pod casting, are added to the mix.

Those who are arguing for reestablishment of the Fairness Doctrine have not done their homework….

Commentary

You can bet everything you own that the Democrats will get a new Fairness Doctrine in place if Barack Obama is elected President, and that will mean the end of AM Radio.

Fortunately for us, the Internet will be here for the conservative commentators to utilize to side step the ban on conservative talk. That will be good for people who have access to DSL or faster Internet connections, but not for the millions who are on dial up, or listen while on the road, or away from computers.

Will wireless carriers be able to stream Internet radio? Or will people employ a work around like I did while WZNN/WZGM was offering talk radio programming? (I used a transmitter to take the audio from an AM Radio and transmit it on FM so I could hear the faint 1350 kHz signal on my Walkman on an empty slot on the FM Dial, usually 87.9 MHz, up to a mile from my pickup).

I am firm in my belief that if the Fairness Doctrine is passed, we will find a way around it…for the Neo-Stalinist Democrats do not understand the power of freedom, and the utility of Free Markets…that is one reason lefty talk never took hold. They just don’t get it, and never will.

Tony Snow Has Died

Posted by Thunder Pig on July 12, 2008

Tony Snow, the former White House press secretary and conservative pundit who bedeviled the press corps and charmed millions as a FOX News television and radio host, has died after a long bout with cancer. He was 53.

A syndicated columnist, editor, TV anchor, radio show host and musician, Snow worked in nearly every medium in a career that spanned more than 30 years.

Snow joined FOX in 1996 as the original anchor of FOX News Sunday, and hosted Weekend Live and a radio program, The Tony Snow Show, before departing in 2006. A sometime fill-in host for Rush Limbaugh, Snow said he loved the intimacy of his radio audience.

“It’s a tremendous loss for us who knew him, but it’s also a loss for the country,” Roger Ailes, Chairman of FOX News, said Saturday morning about Snow, calling him a “renaissance man.”

This is sad. I used to listen to his radio show on XM Radio. He was a good guy, and it is President Bush’s loss that he never realized the precious gem he had on his White House Staff.

Another Great Man has gone on to his reward.

**update** 11.03 AM The posts in the blogosphere are rolling in, but I think the best I have seen so far is a post on News Busters replaying Tony Snow’s acceptance speech at the 2nd annual MRC awards dinner of the William F. Buckley, Jr. Award For Media Excellence:

That was one of the things I loved about Tony Snow, he could find the humor in most anything.

June 24th on Blog Talk Radio

Posted by Thunder Pig on June 24, 2008

Here is my way to avoid posting 5 or 6 radio shows everyday on the blog, and run the risk of burning out, or worse yet, overlooking some shows when things get hectic. so, if you are a BTR host, and you wonder why I only embed your show occaisionally, it is because I forget. I still listen via the RSS Feed due to internet issues at night from home. My neighbors all give me a hard time because I got them all to switch to DSL, and now…we all go dark at 6pm every night, and teh intertubes don’t come back until 2am. They will be burning down the local Verizon Office right after they burn my house down (with me still in it).

11:00AM

First up, we have Fausta’s Blog. I accidentally posted it yesterday because I didn’t know what day it was yesterday. Today’s show is billed as The Return of the All Stars:

Chat Room

Her blog

7:00PM

Snooper is scheduled to be on American Truth Warriors tonight, and his description is a stream-of conciousness thing that goes like this: Sound bytes, idiot politicians, the Smith Act, treason, sedition, subversion. Sounds like it will be another winner:

Chat Room

A Newt One

8:00 PM

Patriot Action with Matt and Wyatt is next up. These guys discuss the news and issues of the day from a conservative point of view:

Chat Room

Matt’s Website

Wyatt’s You Tube channel

9:00 PM

Andrea Shea King is next up at bat, and this evening’s show will be about The steady and inexorable encroachment of socialism in our government, and the expectation of the citizenry that abets it. Tonight we take a close look at the proof:

Chat Room

Radio Patriot

10:00 PM

Doug has an appropriate title for his show, “The Show Must Go On” and his show notes give us a clue about the topics he plans on covering…What happened to silence my show and blog?, as well as “Return of the Censors – How the Canadian Human Rights Commission has placed Mark Steyn, and the Freedom of the Press, on trial:

Chat Room

Political Pistachio

11:00 PM

And to end the day is Josh Allem, clean-up hitter who is a very astute political observer. He offers great commentary and wonderful insight on today’s political situation:

Chat Room

Josh’s Blog

So that is the roundup of shows I normally put on my MP3 player and listen to while doing other stuff. I just wish that I could participate in the chat rooms more often, there are some great people in them!

The Return of Political Pistachio

Posted by Thunder Pig on June 24, 2008

My internet service was down last night (Thank You, Verizon DSL), so I couldn’t embed or listen to Doug’s return to radio last night, so I’ll post the podcast today instead.

Yesterday, I found out why Doug hadn’t been on the air. The brief recap is that he had reason to believe that his family would be in danger if he kept on broadcasting and blogging, so he stopped.

Last night, he returned to the airwaves (or intertubes) in his regular slot as Monday night co-host on The Andrea Shea King Show:

You can read his post about the situation.

And I couldn’t resist adding Josh Allem’s Return as well:

Here are blogs for more info:

Doug blogs at:
Political Pistachio

Andrea Shea King blogs at:
Radio Patriot

This is just another example of Quinn’s First Law in action:

Liberalism always generates the exact opposite of its stated intent.

The lefties that targeted Doug and his family had no idea that they would stiffen Doug’s resolve, or that other people come forth to stand with Doug. I know that I would have been unlikely to start a series of posts on The Homosexual Agenda, or why Gay Marriage is not a good thing.

I am also going to have to find a better way of promoting these Blog Talk Radio Shows, because if I embedded the shows i liked…this blog would be featuring 5 or 6 shows a day. Perhaps I can start an …on BTR Today post that has all the BTR Shows for the day that I like to download and listen to later. My primary source for these shows is my RSS Reader, so I listen to them a day od so, or more, after they have aired. Especially the night shows. My internet connection isn’t the greatest, and I am usually in bed by 8pm every night unless something is going on in the sky.

BTR: The Alaska Republican Party Chairman-Randy Ruedrich on Katcha KLOO Radio

Posted by Thunder Pig on June 23, 2008

Here is a very informative show you might want to check out, scheduled for 6/23/2008 at 12am:

Please check out the show if you are still awake.. est-12:00 We have representatives who say they are conservative, but vote for every liberal/socialistic idea proposed. Is there still room for a conservative in the GOP? We will have a guest join us he is informative on Alaska politics and most issues that are associated with Republicans. Join us, we pose some questions to the Alaska Republican Party Chairman-Randy Ruedrich. How is Republican defined in the eyes of Alaskans? Is it helpfulwe have a governor who demonstrates everything opposite of being a Republican? Should a conservative think twice about running for office in Alaska?

Chatroom

If you can’t make the show, you can listen on podcast, which will usually be available an hour or so after the show ends.

I download the shows via the RSS Feed.

Action Alert—Laura Ingraham Taken Off Air

Posted by Thunder Pig on June 13, 2008

From my inbox:

Popular radio talk show host Laura Ingraham has been taken off the air with no explanation.

Laura’s show is one of the top five most popular talk radio shows in the nation. Laura is a solid conservative voice on the air.

She is gone with no explanation. All anyone knows is that it is not her choice.

If radio networks can yank a conservative voice who is that popular, they can do it to Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity or anyone else.

Liberals are again agitating to shut down conservative talk radio. They have been pushing “diversity” regulations through the FCC to do just that. Taking out Laura Ingraham is just a step along the way toward shutting down conservative talk radio totally.

Here is a station guide for Laura Ingraham. Please call your local affiliate and tell the station you want Laura Ingraham back on the Laura Ingraham show.

You can stop liberals from shutting down talk radio by standing up for Laura Ingraham.

Sincerely yours,

The John Batchelor Show for June 8th

Posted by Thunder Pig on June 8, 2008

It’s Sunday night, and that means it’s time for John Batchelor!

Here is his new website.

Of particular interest tonight will be an interview tonight with a blogger who has tried to determine when Barack Obama met Bill Ayers. It is scheduled for 8.35pm.

If you can’t listen to him over the air, you can listen to him from 7pm to 10pm Eastern Devil Time on WABC.

The main WABC Stream is not working this week, try this one.
Another backup is here.

Then, he switches over to KFI for the 10pm to 1am Eastern Devil Time slot.

His blog.

Enjoy!

Also, Rezko Watch has a schedule of the show.
