Saturday Matinee: The Desert Rats (1953)

Posted by Thunder Pig on July 26, 2008

Rommel has the British in retreat on his way to the Suez Canal. All that stands in his way is Tobruk, held by a vastly out numbered force of Australian troops. Richard Burton leads these troops on daring raids against Rommel, keeping him off balance as they earn the nickname ‘The Desert Rats’.

These types of services works very well for me, because I live out of range of over-the-air television signals and have no interest in purchasing a satellite receiver. Thank God that I have had Verizon DSL since March.

Iranian Mortars Pound Israel During Ceasefire

Posted by Thunder Pig on June 25, 2008

Israel is moving anti-mortar radars to its border with Gaza, to fight the growing number of Iranian 120mm mortars Hamas is using. While the mortar is heavy (about 300 pounds), it can be broken down into components (barrel-94 pounds, base plate- 135 pounds, bipod-72 pounds, sight-four pounds). More accurate than the locally made Kassam rockets, and with more range (normally 6-7 kilometers, but up to 10 kilometers with special ammo), the shells weigh 35-40 pounds and have about the same destructive effect as 105mm howitzer shells.

Another news story:

Under cover of a barrage of more than 50 missiles, mortars and rocket, Hamas made three attempts to breach the Gaza border fence for major suicide bombings, the last one late Thursday, June 12. They sent a bulldozer to ram Netiv Ha’asara, a bomb car to crash the border fence and gunmen on foot to blow up the Erez crossing. Israel ground and air units foiled them all.

Israeli locations from Ashkelon in the north down to Shear Hanegev, Kibbutz Nir Oz and Sderot were struck by 20 missiles, one Grad rocket and more than 35 mortar shells. A woman was injured at Kibbutz Yad Mordecai. Sirens warned people under attack to stay in indoors, as fires blazed and explosions erupted – one close to the Barzilai regional hospital in Ashkelon.

The first Hamas attempt to blow up Israeli military guard posts at the Erez crossing was mounted early Thursday as the Israeli defense ministry’s political coordinator Amos Gilead traveled to Cairo to hand over Israel’s acceptance of the Egyptian formula for a truce in Gaza.

They were intercepted and at least one was killed by Israeli ground and air fire.

The terrorists have been at war with Israel, and they are using weapons supplied by Iran…thus acting as a proxy for Iran in its’ quest to destroy Israel.

Why are we aiding the terrorists by restraining Israel?

Why is Secretary of State Condi Rice acting to assist terrorists kill Israelis?

When will we face a reckoning for our actions that contribute to the harming of God’s Chosen People?
When will the government of Israel realize that all a ceasefire does is allow the terrorists to re-arm? I point you to the concept of hudna:

“What is being touted as a ‘cease-fire’ is something called a ‘hudna.’ A hudna [also known as a hudibiyya or khudaibiya] is a tactical cease-fire that allows the Arabs to rebuild their terrorist infrastructure in order to be more effective when the “cease-fire” is called off.” — “Cease-fire?” by Shira A. Drissman

**update** 6.54am
It has occurred to me that most people alive today have not been taught anything other than the pro-Palestinian lies pushed on them by the lefties in our “public” schools systems, and in the media.

I have tracked down and made a playlist for an excellent movie about the founding of Israel told from the point of view of the story of American Mickey Marcus. Note: The videos are out out of order…sorry about that. The owner uploaded them out of order and mislabeled them.

You can buy a DVD of Cast a Giant Shadow, or order the book, Cast A Giant Shadow: The Story of Mickey Marcus Who Died to Save Jerusalem.

There are many history books you can read on the subject at a library near you. There are many online sources of the same information, and I will introduce you to them over the next few weeks.

Here is a complete series put out by the BBC on the birth of modern day Israel in 6 parts:

June 24th on Blog Talk Radio

Posted by Thunder Pig on June 24, 2008

Here is my way to avoid posting 5 or 6 radio shows everyday on the blog, and run the risk of burning out, or worse yet, overlooking some shows when things get hectic. so, if you are a BTR host, and you wonder why I only embed your show occaisionally, it is because I forget. I still listen via the RSS Feed due to internet issues at night from home. My neighbors all give me a hard time because I got them all to switch to DSL, and now…we all go dark at 6pm every night, and teh intertubes don’t come back until 2am. They will be burning down the local Verizon Office right after they burn my house down (with me still in it).

11:00AM

First up, we have Fausta’s Blog. I accidentally posted it yesterday because I didn’t know what day it was yesterday. Today’s show is billed as The Return of the All Stars:

Chat Room

Her blog

7:00PM

Snooper is scheduled to be on American Truth Warriors tonight, and his description is a stream-of conciousness thing that goes like this: Sound bytes, idiot politicians, the Smith Act, treason, sedition, subversion. Sounds like it will be another winner:

Chat Room

A Newt One

8:00 PM

Patriot Action with Matt and Wyatt is next up. These guys discuss the news and issues of the day from a conservative point of view:

Chat Room

Matt’s Website

Wyatt’s You Tube channel

9:00 PM

Andrea Shea King is next up at bat, and this evening’s show will be about The steady and inexorable encroachment of socialism in our government, and the expectation of the citizenry that abets it. Tonight we take a close look at the proof:

Chat Room

Radio Patriot

10:00 PM

Doug has an appropriate title for his show, “The Show Must Go On” and his show notes give us a clue about the topics he plans on covering…What happened to silence my show and blog?, as well as “Return of the Censors – How the Canadian Human Rights Commission has placed Mark Steyn, and the Freedom of the Press, on trial:

Chat Room

Political Pistachio

11:00 PM

And to end the day is Josh Allem, clean-up hitter who is a very astute political observer. He offers great commentary and wonderful insight on today’s political situation:

Chat Room

Josh’s Blog

So that is the roundup of shows I normally put on my MP3 player and listen to while doing other stuff. I just wish that I could participate in the chat rooms more often, there are some great people in them!

Barack Obama: The Candidate of Change

Posted by Thunder Pig on June 24, 2008

We keep hearing that Barack Obama is the candidate of change, that he is clear and consistent in his leadership and in his message. But what does that mean? A look at a few of the positions and counter positions the Junior Senator from Illinois has taken in the course of his four short years from a candidate for the United States Senate to a candidate for the Presidency:
