How Many People Read Blogs?

Posted by Thunder Pig on July 24, 2008

The short answer, according to PEW, is 11% of internet users regularly read blogs, and 58% don’t have a clue. The funniest observation is that 5% of internet users blog on a daily basis…so that means about half of people who read blogs have one themselves.

Okay, fine. 11% of what number?

According to World Internet World Stats, that would be about 247 million Americans who use the Internet, which would lead me to the number of 27 million daily blog readers in North America. I find that hard to believe.

The last time such a study was released, it was claimed that 8 million had blogs, and 32 million read them, and even then, it was hard to believe.
Another survey from Hostway.

I note that even now, some of the bigger blogs like Daily KKKos gets just under a million hits a day, and a certain percentage of those hits are multiple hits from people reading the various dairies in the site. Of course, that doesn’t take into account those who read via the RSS Feeds…but it can’t be that many.

I suspect that many who said they read blogs really don’t know what a blog is, or read blogs on Legacy Media websites, like CNN, MSNBC, FOX, or the various newspapers.I don’t consider those blogs as part of the blogosphere.

I hope there is more forthcoming from this survey, and I’d like to look at their methods and how they asked the questions. I suspect we may never really get a real answer to  the question posed in the title of this post because of advertising concerns.

It would be bad for business.

Hat Tip: Digital Inspiration

For the Geek Impaired…Hat Tip is blogger short hand for…”and this is what I was reading when the urge to blog about it hit me”

I wonder how many bloggers suffer from OCD?

The End of the Internet by 2012?

Posted by Thunder Pig on June 15, 2008

On the heals (sic) of the site shut down by Typepad of Aussie News & Views and now Sharia Finance, comes word that Bell Canada and TELUS (formerly owned by Verizon) employees officially confirm that by 2012 ISP’s all over the globe will reduce Internet access to a TV-like subscription model, only offering access to a small standard amount of commercial sites and require extra fees for every other site you visit.

Read the article. This fits with reports of many of the Internet Service Providers throttling internet speeds and monthly bandwidth quotas.

Even Google has worked out a way for users to track IP throttling.

Hypocrisy and Lefty Bloggers

Posted by Thunder Pig on June 10, 2008

I get a kick out out lefty bloggers, especially the Marxists who would put the government in control of every aspect of our lives until every drop of liberty was squeezed out.

An example:

– I saw three people roll up to a wedding this weekend in their H2. They drove it from Atlanta. I’m not sure if it occurred to them that they were consuming irresponsibly.

Source: Scrutiny Hooligans

Like most lefties, it never occurs to them that liberty involves the freedom to act irresponsibly…except that these people did not act responsibly, and had less of an effect on the environment than most people who cannot afford a Hummer.

That is how the Free Market works, people drive what they can afford. My old chevy 1987 pickup gets 6 miles to the gallon and has no emission control devices. It cost me $200. That should get more of his self-righteous ire than the H2’s (which get better fuel mileage than any of my vehicles), and there are probably ten thousand pickups like mine to every H2 out there on the road.

And my 1997 Ford diesel pickup gets only 12 mpg (it drops down to 7-8 when I haul trailers around loaded with equipment), and it is not subject to passing emission tests like my other truck. Models like that are also more numerous than the H2.

The H2 represents class envy for those on the left. At least the H2 can carry 6 people, my Chvy only carries 2, and my diesel only carries 4 max. Plus, the H2 is far more environmentally friendly in its emission control than most of the older vehicles on the road.

The lefty goes on to complain about the spelling of people on the forums of the regional paper, which leads me to ask, “What is it with lefties and spelling?” Why are they such spelling and grammar Nazis? Do they not realize that what they are complaining about is a direct result of their much-loved public education system? A system that is increasingly teaching children more about multiculturalism than about spelling. A system that is teaching a system of false tolerance for any belief except Christianity and conservatism?

Don’t you think it odd that a parent with an 8th grade education can homeschool their children to outspell 99% of children taught in the public education system, and for less money per pupil?

I could go on and on, but will restrict myself to one more topic, and I have saved the best for last.

Yesterday, that blogger came over here and berated me in the comments about convicting Obama with “guilt by association” posts. (His blog is woven with that thread through and through).

I didn’t have to wait long for him to post another…less than 24 hours later, he goes and does what he was irate about me doing. Hypocrisy, where is thy sting? The dichotomy is delicious, and shows a level of intellectual dishonesty that would make for a comedic character study if presented on stage, film, or even in a weekly sitcom.

The dichotomy comes from him calling it wrong for me to point out the Foul Deeds committed by the many Associates of Barack Obama, but fairplay when it comes to pointing out the Foul Deeds of those associated with Bush, Cheney, or anyone else he chooses. I believe that there is much to be learned from one’s associates, whether it work out to suit my ideological beliefs or not.

This Campaign Season will be very fun from the standpoint of watching all the lefty chickens coming home to roost.

I predict that Emperor Obama will have no clothes at the end of this election, and it is my hope that the takedown of Obama will cause irreparable harm to progressivism in this Republic.

Gulahiyi Covers Theories of the Judaculla Rock

Posted by Thunder Pig on June 5, 2008

One of my favorite bloggers has written about a local archaeological object, Judaculla Rock, which is located in Jackson County, North Carolina. He covers many of the theories about the origin of the odd carvings on the soapstone rock.

Go read it.

Like many locals, I have not been to Judaculla Rock. Maybe I’ll drop by soon, and do a photo essay on the rock, and record some video. I wish someone in our family had recorded my Cherokee great grandmother telling stories about Judaculla and other Cherokee legends. I can only remember her telling about Judaculla and the Little People, because they scared me pretty good. Maybe that is one reason I’ve never been, perhaps somewhere inside me is little child, fearing the striding giant.

Here are my bookmarked sites on Judaculla (It has been on my to do list for a while now) for you to explore:

National Forests in North Carolina

UNC Chapel Hill RLA Course Section

Juanitta Baldwin
(I have her wonderful book, Smoky Mountain Mysteries)

HuffPo Falls Victim To Operation C.H.A.O.S.

Posted by Thunder Pig on May 9, 2008

The mainstream media might try like hell to avoid mentioning the OBVIOUS effect of Rush Limbaugh’s Operation Chaos on prolonging the Democrat primary but the HUffington Post HUffies sure know who to blame. Come to think of it, both John Kerry and the Obama campaign have credited Operation Chaos with giving Hillary her slim win in Indiana. Of course, some people like Pied Piper Pitt think an extended and bloody Democrat primary is a BLESSING but that observation can be chalked up to both grandstanding and an excess of Bukowski’s brew. The HUffies themselves are somewhat more rational than the Pittster in assessing the DEVASTING effect of Operation Chaos upon the Democrat party as you can see in the comments section of this HUffie STORY titled, “Rush Limbaugh Now ‘Backs’ Obama.” So let us now join the HUffies in full fury at Operation Chaos in Bolshevik Red while the commentary of your humble correspondent, noting that Hillary STILL continues rising from the dead like Michael Myers, is in the [brackets]:

This piece of human waste should be locked up for interfering with elections.

[Will he be locked up in the same cell as KOmmie KOs who suggested Democrats should cross over to vote for Romney in the Michigan primary?]

I cannot believe so many people listen to this narcissistic, egotistical gas-bag. It is my sincere hope that Rush will fade into obscurity once Obama wins the Presidency in November.

[If that happens the Democrats will bring back the “Fairness Doctrine” also known as the “Hush Rush” bill.]

Source: PJ Comix has the write-up.

I think it is time to fire up the genesis of Operation C.H.A.O.S. for old times sake (this is a two video playlist…give the second a little time to load:
