LA Earthquake Data Now Called Chino Hills Quake

Posted by Thunder Pig on July 29, 2008

An earthquake hit Los Angeles this morning (5.4 Magnitude), and here are a few places on the web you can go for more data:

USGS Main Website

KNBC Live Stream (LA TV Station)

LA Fox 1 Live Stream

LA Fox 2 Live Stream

The Live Streaming pages require a broadband connection and probably Windows Media Player.

**update** 5.04 PM I noticed on the live feeds that the reporters are calling this quake the Chino Hills quake. Also…LA Fox 2 is not active currently. It may be brought back up in case of breaking news.

National Press Conference…. Oil Price Spurs ANWR Action

Posted by Thunder Pig on July 17, 2008

To pay less, save the environment, and stop sending trillions to foreign dictators. “We can’t drill our way out of our energy problem.” This daily mantra underscores an abysmal grasp of economics by the politicians, activists, bureaucrats and judges who are dictating US policies. If only their hot air could be converted into usable energy.

This is from Syrin, who hosts a radio show on Blog Talk Radio. She will be broadcasting live at 2.30 PM Eastern Time, and you can listen to her here:

Or on her show page, and join in the chat room (I don’t know if it will be open or not) and interact with her and the chatizens.

I enjoy downloading and listen to Syrin’s shows, and hope that you will, too.

Tony Snow Has Died

Posted by Thunder Pig on July 12, 2008

Tony Snow, the former White House press secretary and conservative pundit who bedeviled the press corps and charmed millions as a FOX News television and radio host, has died after a long bout with cancer. He was 53.

A syndicated columnist, editor, TV anchor, radio show host and musician, Snow worked in nearly every medium in a career that spanned more than 30 years.

Snow joined FOX in 1996 as the original anchor of FOX News Sunday, and hosted Weekend Live and a radio program, The Tony Snow Show, before departing in 2006. A sometime fill-in host for Rush Limbaugh, Snow said he loved the intimacy of his radio audience.

“It’s a tremendous loss for us who knew him, but it’s also a loss for the country,” Roger Ailes, Chairman of FOX News, said Saturday morning about Snow, calling him a “renaissance man.”

This is sad. I used to listen to his radio show on XM Radio. He was a good guy, and it is President Bush’s loss that he never realized the precious gem he had on his White House Staff.

Another Great Man has gone on to his reward.

**update** 11.03 AM The posts in the blogosphere are rolling in, but I think the best I have seen so far is a post on News Busters replaying Tony Snow’s acceptance speech at the 2nd annual MRC awards dinner of the William F. Buckley, Jr. Award For Media Excellence:

That was one of the things I loved about Tony Snow, he could find the humor in most anything.

Technical Review Committee Approves Parkside Project In Asheville

Posted by Thunder Pig on July 7, 2008

An embedded Thunder Pig Reporter has just phoned me to say that the Parkside Project met with unanimous approval from the TRC in Asheville.

I will have more details as they become available.

This is a victory for reasonable and law-abiding citizens everywhere, and a defeat for the unreasonable sort of people who oppose capitalism!

I forgot that there was going to be live coverage in the comments section of Scrutiny Hooligans, and will direct you there for a blow-by-blow account from the Hooligans in the room.

I couldn’t find any of my videos where I cut down trees, so I’ll let this guy give tips on how to cut down a tree:

I’ll volunteer my services to cut down the Magnolia Tree for Coleman, if he will accept it.

Oh, and make sure these people are not nearby when the deed is done:

WLOS Video coverage, with more videos on that page.

Asheville Citizen-Times has details about Blanton’s life, and family.

From the Asheville Citizen-Times:

Wong lingered at the shooting scene, calmly searching Blanton while the trooper lay bleeding to death, Clendinin said.

“The whole thing is just a sickening act,” he said.

The shooting set off a “barrage” of 911 calls, Haywood County Sheriff Tom Alexander said.

Callers gave authorities a good description of Wong, his truck and what had happened.

At the Chevron station just off the Exit 31 ramp, customers in small groups kept walking in and telling store clerk Brandon Luther what they had seen.

“They told me somebody took the cop’s gun and shot him and took off,” he said.

Wong also had maurijuana, pills and three weapons in him at the time of his arrest.

Eastern Band Message Board

There are no words to make this any more bearable. You have the opportunity to help the family of North Carolina Highway Patrolman Shawn Blanton by donating a little money at one of the above locations.

Tim Russert Dead of Heart Attack

Posted by Thunder Pig on June 13, 2008

Tim Russert, who pointedly but politely questioned hundreds of the powerful and influential as moderator of NBC’s “Meet the Press,” died Friday of an apparent heart attack. The network’s Washington bureau chief was 58.

In addition to his weekly program, Russert made periodic appearances on the network’s other news shows, was moderator for numerous political debates and wrote two best-selling boooks.

NBC interrupted its regular programming to announce Russert’s death, and in the ensuing moments, familiar faces such as Tom Brokaw, Andrea Mitchell and Brian Williams took turns mourning his loss.

This is sad. I considered Russert an ideological opponent, and am saddened to hear of his passing at such a young age, he was 58 years old.

Watch Barack Obama Townhall Live Coutesy Raleigh News & Observer Updated with Audio of Speech

Posted by Thunder Pig on April 17, 2008

Apparently I’m not the only one ramping up to provide live coverage of political events. Witness:

<!– –>Event is over…processing audio. will have a video clip overview…
The event will start at 12.30pm, (now they are saying 1pm) and is in Greensboro Raleigh.
Hat Tip: Under the Dome

**update** 4.09 pm
Here is the audio of his speech:

I am very glad to see more people starting to realize that they can webcast events live on the internet, and, despite very little warning, the News & Observer managed to score a peak of 275 viewers (give or take) at one point during the speech.

Now, if only the North Carolina General Assembly would follow through, and start webcasting video of their floor action, and committee meetings so that we, their employers, can watch them do our work.
