Eagle Forum Endorses Shuler Bill to SAVE America from Illegal Immigration

Washington, D.C.—Eagle Forum, a leading pro-family organization founded by Phyllis Schlafly, fully supports and endorses the Secure America with Verification and Enforcement (SAVE) Act, H.R. 4088, recently introduced by Representative Heath Shuler (D-NC). For years, Eagle Forum has been a tireless advocate of an enforcement approach in remedying the illegal immigration problem in the United States. The introduction of this bill is exciting because it is the first to seriously address the issues of border security and interior enforcement since the stunning defeat of the Senate’s “Grand Amnesty” plan this past summer.

“We are very excited about Rep. Shuler’s bill,” stated Eagle Forum Executive Director, Jessica Echard. “Not only does it properly address the will of grassroots Americans to enforce already-existing immigration laws, but has a good chance of coming to a vote as it is rapidly gaining a good deal of bipartisan support. It already has over 100 cosponsors.”

“This bill looks very promising because it tackles illegal immigration from three different directions,” Echard said. “First, it increases technological surveillance and the number of border patrol agents. Second, it requires employers to use the E-verify program so they can be assured they are not hiring illegal aliens. Thirdly, it will give the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) greater resources to strictly enforce current immigration laws and to better facilitate deportation when necessary.”

“During the push for amnesty instead of enforcement this past summer, there was a lot of rhetoric coming from Capitol Hill about enhanced border security and employer verification of employees,” stated Echard. “This bill gives Congress a great opportunity to prove to Americans that they actually meant what they said.”

Eagle Forum’s Mission is to enable conservative and pro-family men and women to participate in the process of self-government and public policy making so that America will continue to be a land of individual liberty, respect for family integrity, public and private virtue, and private enterprise.

‘Operation Varsity March’ Nets al Qaida Weapons Smuggler

Posted by Thunder Pig on November 27, 2007

FORWARD OPERATING BASE HAMMER — Soldiers from Company B, 1st Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, captured 13 suspected insurgents during a nighttime air assault mission in Sayafiyah, a small village outside of Salman Pak, Nov. 24.

One of the detainees was a high value individual (HVI), who was a member of al-Qaida in Iraq wanted for weapons smuggling and financing attacks on Coalition forces in Salman Pak and Al Ja’ara.

“According to our intelligence, the insurgent we apprehended was an expert bomb maker and VBID (vehicle borne improvised explosive device) maker,” said 1st Lt. Matthew Barwick, from Lanham, Md., fire support officer for Co. B. “By apprehending him, we have taken a very dangerous person off the streets and made the area safer.”

During the course of the operation Co. B Soldiers cleared eight houses and barns while searching for the suspects.

“The operation went perfectly,” said Spc. Lyle Johnson, from Comanche, Okla., an indirect fire specialist in Co. B. “We cleared all of our objectives and got the No. 1 HVI and 12 of his partners. We did all of this without firing a shot, so I’d say it was a good operation.”

The 1-15th Inf. Regt. is part of the 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Benning, Ga., and has been deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom since March.

PRESS RELEASE–NC-11 Candidate Carl Mumpower

Posted by Thunder Pig on October 2, 2007

11th District Congressional Candidate on Democrats Proposed War Tax

Top House Democrats proposed a “war surtax” on Tuesday to pay for the war in Iraq and Afghanistan, a plan quickly condemned by Republicans and opposed by House leadership. The surtax would be “a percentage of your tax bill,” said House Appropriations Committee Chairman Dave Obey, D-Wisconsin. “And if you don’t like the cost, then shut down the war.” The measure (sponsored by Obey, Rep. Jack Murtha, D-Pennsylvania, and Jim McGovern, D-Massachusetts) would require low- and middle-income taxpayers to add 2 percent to their tax bill, while higher-income taxpayers would add 12 to 15 percent, Obey said. Announced Republican challenger for Democrat Heath Shuler’s 11th District seat, Carl Mumpower, validated the proposal as “higher level thinking“ should the same standard be applied to Democrat entitlement initiatives. “I think we would all like the option of directly challenging Washington waste when we don’t like the cost”, shared Mumpower. Highlighting that annual congressional spending has increased to $24,106 per American household, Mumpower noted “Selective calls for tax dollar accountability ring a little hollow from two parties equally willing to borrow on tomorrow for the special interests of today.”

Press Release: Mumpower on Inflight Movies and Open Air Drug Markets

Posted by Thunder Pig on September 27, 2007

Wednesday, September 26, 2007

Congressman Heath Shuler’s Tuesday introduction of a bill requiring cabin separation for children under 13 who might be exposed to PG-13 and R rated in-flight movies has prompted a response from announced 11th District candidate, Carl Mumpower. Citing an appreciation for Shuler’s values, Mumpower did offer challenge to the Congressman’s priorities. “In flight movies are a pretty lofty target for congressional action” said Mumpower. “It might be better if we came down to earth and got more serious about open air drug markets that are kidnapping our children’s futures and leave airplanes to the friendly sky people and their customers.” Mumpower further noted that this is the kind of legislation for which Washington is famous. “Our nation’s leaders love to focus on secondary special interests while dodging the accountabilities of the real issues that affect real people in real ways.”

The Kos Kidz are terrified of a reporter’s questions!

* Richard Cranium’s diary :: ::

I am sitting here absolutely stunned after watching the 60 Minutes interview with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Reporter Scott Pelley was unbelievably scary in asking the questions he asked.

At the moment, I’m at a loss for words, but if you watched it, and were as stunned as I was, please let me know. I need a sanity check.

I’m going to have to wait for a transcript, but here’s what immediately scared me:

* Pelley’s “questions” (allegedly from George Bush)
* Pelley’s declarations that the U.S. had “proof of Iran firing missiles at Americans in Iraq”
* Pelley’s assertations that “Iran is providing material support to Iraq insurgents. We have proof. What do you say?” … or something like that. Very close.

It was a masterful Goebbel-esque performance by 60 Minutes, on behalf of Dick Cheney and the drums of war.

I’m telling you, it was scary beyond belief.

Perhaps I’ll update this diary as my thoughts come to me. Hopefully, the vid is posted soon at C&L or elsewhere.

Update: Interview, video and transcripts here.

When presented with a murderous dictator being interviewed by a reporter, Lefties all over share a common fear…that the reporter will ask the wrong questions. That says more about them than I could in a dozen posts.

For those of you who are able (and not afraid), there are several protests on to show this thug we are so on to him (and that we are not afraid).

Press Release From Dr. Mumpower

Posted by Thunder Pig on September 12, 2007

~ Press Release ~

On Wednesday, September 12th, Asheville City Councilman Carl Mumpower committed to running as a Republican candidate for the 11th District Congressional seat. Mumpower, who has served for 6 years as an independent conservative voice on Asheville’s liberal City Council has vowed to stay the course on this important political race.

Mumpower highlights a commitment to what he defines as essential issues as the foundation of his principles over politics approach to public service. Some of those issues include securing our borders; resisting a ballooning national debt; challenging Washington’s indulgence of special interests; reducing bureaucratic strangulation of our education; business and health care systems; redirecting our energies in the fight against the harms of hard drugs; and renewing a national priority on enforcing existing laws over making new ones.

When asked to share one statement that broadly defines his position on the issues, Mumpower offered, It is the a dedication to the American Success Equation of liberty, opportunity and responsibility that we best secure a future of hope for our children and sustain America as a model for the people of the world reaching for a light.

Mumpower indicates his campaign approach will be straight forward. I want the people of WNC to know my name, that I am running for Congress, and where I stand on the issues they will take it from there.

PRESS RELEASE—NC Senator Phil Berger

Posted by Thunder Pig on July 3, 2007

Senate Republican Leader
Senator Phil Berger
26th Senatorial District

Phone Number: (919) 733-5708 North Carolina Senate

1026 Legislative Building Raleigh, NC 27601

Democrats’ Only Answer: “Hike Taxes”

Existing Revenue Structure Adequate say Republicans

Legislative Democrats continue to push tax hikes on North Carolina ’s families despite a second consecutive budget surplus of more than a billion dollars (2005-2006 surplus $2.4 billion; 2006-2007 surplus $1.5 billion). Fresh from voting for a Continuing Resolution that breaks repeated promises to sunset “temporary” taxes enacted in 2001, Democrats offer only one answer to their current budget impasse – more and higher taxes. They ignore the fact that North Carolina taxpayers already shoulder the heaviest tax burden in the southeast and one of the highest in the nation. Even though the Democrat controlled General Assembly has been in session since January and the primary order of business is the adoption of a state budget before the June 30 end of the state’s fiscal year, Democrats voted to give themselves an additional month to decide which taxes they will hike.

Over the past several weeks Legislative Republicans have outlined a way to address North Carolina’s growing transportation and infrastructure needs, presented a workable plan to enable the state to assume the full burden of Medicaid, and set out a budget proposal that, if enacted, would eliminate the Democrats’ 2001 “temporary” income and sales tax increases, fully fund government services, and provide a state budget surplus within existing tax rates. Rather than adopt, or even address, the Republican proposals, Democrats continue to search for the “right” tax, or taxes, to raise and continue to finalize plans for spending even more money.

Senate Republican Leader Phil Berger (R-Rockingham) made the following statement:

“Republicans, like most North Carolinians , do not think the State needs an additional hike in sales, income, or any other taxes. We have consistently said the problem is not that the state taxes too little, but that the Democrats in the Legislature spend too much. Especially now, with the issue of trust in government being front and center because of ongoing Democrat ethical scandals, it is time repeated promises to eliminate ‘temporary’ taxes be kept.

“Senate Republicans supported Senate Democrats and their version of a new State budget because it kept the promise of tax relief for the people of North Carolina and was the right step to help restore the credibility of state elected officials. Republicans are prepared to work on a bipartisan solution finalizing a state spending plan, but will not support taking more money from North Carolina ’s citizens at a time when state government has a surplus of over $1.5 billion.”

Methinks things are gonna get a little interesting down in Raleigh…
